Photographer Ted Lieverman spent a total of forty-five nights from 2019 through 2023 embedded with Delta Platoon at the fire house in Old City, Philadelphia, known as Engine 8, Ladder 2. Each shift lasted from 6PM to 7AM, and during those hours, Lieverman documented the lives of the fire fighters on call--sharing meals and quiet conversation, as well as going out on runs. The images here offer particular insight into what it means to live as a fire fighter, whether actively rushing toward danger or quietly preparing for it.
